AMS Privacy Statement
Welcome to the Web site of the American Military Society. We have adopted the following policies to demonstrate our firm commitment to privacy for our members and other Web site users. The following paragraphs disclose our information-gathering and dissemination practices.
AMS is the sole owner of the information collected on this site. We reserve the right to share information with trusted third-party vendors that provide contracted services for AMS and its membership.
How we gather information from users
How we collect and store information depends on the site you are visiting, the activities in which you elect to participate and the services provided. For example, you may be asked to provide information when you register for access to certain portions of our site or request certain features, such as newsletters, news updates, or when you purchase one of our products. You may provide information when you participate in voting and polling activities, online activism or advocacy efforts, and other interactive areas of our site.
Like most web sites, the AMS site also collects information automatically and through the use of electronic tools that may be transparent to our visitors. For example, we may use cookie technology to recognize you and hold information from your visit. Among other things, the cookie may store your user name and e-mail address, sparing you from having to re-enter that information each time you visit.
What we do with the information we collect
Aggregated Information (information that does not personally identify you) may be used in many ways. For example, we may combine information about your usage patterns with similar information obtained from other users to help enhance our site and services (e.g., to learn which pages are visited most or what features are most attractive).
AMS recognizes and appreciates the importance of responsible use of information collected on this site. For this reason, AMS reserves the option of contacting you from time to time about important issues in which the American Military Society is involved. In each communication you receive from us, you are given the opportunity to opt-out by using an unsubscribe function provided at the end of each message.
AMS Web site users who are not AMS members may be asked to fill in AMS’s Guest Book to access certain restricted areas of the site. AMS Web site users may also fill in the Guest Book voluntarily and independent of gaining access to restricted areas of the site. Persons who submit a Guest Book entry may be solicited for AMS membership.
Links To Other Sites
AMS’s Web site includes links to other sites. These sites are beyond our control. These other sites may send their own cookies to users, collect data or solicit personal information. Please consult the privacy statement of individual sites that are linked to by AMS for more specific information.
AMS tries to provide security on pages which request personal data. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, while we strive to protect your personal information, AMS cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us or from our online products or services, and you do so at your own risk. Once we receive your transmission, we make our best effort to ensure its security on our systems. When credit card information is transmitted we use industry standard, SSL (secure socket layer) encryption.
